Red Door Gallery is thrilled to welcome back landscape painter Gordon Mitchell, winner of Red Door Gallery’s 2015 Juried Show Juror’s Choice Award.  Jurors Eileen Menzel, Andy Kuntz and Christine Montague chose his painting, “The Point, Clear Lake, Muskoka”, saying:

“The selection of this gem of a landscape for the Jurors’ Choice was remarkably easy. It’s a good representation of why painting is never dead, despite repeated claims to the contrary. It’s very technically skilful in combining loose, highly textured painterly marks within an emotional sense of place. It evokes a strong sense of memory or an intimate feeling of knowing that particular scene, captured in a golden frame to be treasured and enjoyed all who look at it.”

In this solo exhibition, Gordon shows landscapes from his extensive travels in Ontario, including Muskoka, Georgian Bay, Parry Sound, and the Lake Superior region of Algoma.  He paints the scene with the emotion of the experience in vivid colours and with carefree brushstrokes that capture the natural and rugged beauty of Northern Ontario.  Gordon’s style has been influenced by instructors at the Oakville Art Society, Loyalist College, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the McMichael Gallery and renowned artist Tony Bianco.  Prices from $295
